Who We Are

GlobeMed is a national network of student-run chapters, and each chapter partners with a unique grass-roots organization to bring health equity and development to communities around the world. As chapter members at Notre Dame, we have three distinct missions. First, we aim to support health education projects that are implemented by our grassroots partner, Population Education Development Association (PEDA), based in Vientiane, Laos. PEDA works to bring health education to communities in rural Laos that lack access to health care and knowledge on disease prevention. This makes them more vulnerable to preventable illness and death, but PEDA is combatting this by raising awareness on preventative measures through their education campaigns. Second, we are committed to taking action against oppressive systems in our community through advocacy work. Building on our themes of accompaniment and solidarity, we engage in volunteering opportunities around South Bend, promote awareness in our community, and use our voice to fight for necessary change. And third, we strive to educate and empower our students to become future leaders in the movement for global health equity.

Our Mission Statement

GlobeMed aims to strengthen the movement for global health equity by empowering students and communities to work together to improve the health of all people around the world.

Partnership

At GlobeMed at Notre Dame, we engage in sustainable and anti-oppressive partnership with Population Education and Development Association (PEDA), a grassroots organization focused on addressing healthcare disparities in Laos.

Advocacy

In addition to our partnering with PEDA, we are committed to improving our own community. Our advocacy work focuses on raising awareness and taking action against social, political, and economic systems that allow poverty, oppression, discrimination in healthcare, and illness to persist.

GlobalHealthU (GHU)

Run by our GHU coordinators during our weekly meetings, GHUs are a series of presentations designed to educate about a particular topic connected to the themes of social justice, global health, and more. GHU presentations also include discussion and activities to engage club members on the topic.

What You Can Do To Help

GlobeMed relies heavily on our club members to spread our message and mission to the rest of the campus community. By attending our meetings, volunteering at our advocacy events, and supporting our fundraising, you will not only make a positive impact on campus, but also instigate necessary conversations and actions regarding healthcare justice. Join us at our next meeting to get involved!
